This is the strangest thing. Earlier in the year my wife and I went away, in the UK, obviously taking our cameras with us. We spent a week away and took many photographs, many of which will eventually find their way onto this website. The weather was kind to us and the sun shone for the majority of the break. The food was great everywhere we ate and our hosts where we stayed were excellent and made a mean cooked breakfast.
So, so far nothing very strange about it I hear you say. Well other than maybe it was sunny in the UK. Here is the rub as they say (Shakespeare quotes to, we are nothing but cultured). Its been a few months and I finally got around to editing some of the images. This was not the first image I looked at but eventually I ended up at this image. I noticed that in it's unedited form the corner of the room seemed to have a bright area or lens flare which I assumed was coming from the window or the door. As I adjusted the sliders and tweaked this and that I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I hope that like me you can clearly see the shape of a person. More than that that person seems to be female. The figure isn't solid but is certainly an apparition with quite clear form. Quite creepy don't you think? Now I can tell you that when I took the image there was most definitely nothing or no one standing, sitting or even hovering in that corner. So is this a ghostly apparition completely invisible to the naked eye. A tortured soul who fell foul of some grisly murder or even worse roams the earth due to her own despicable actions. Or maybe.......Just maybe the story that I lay before you is just that a, spooky slightly chilling story. The image itself could be just a fabrication, a composite, a hopefully clever edit combining images to illicit a certain reaction from the viewer. Could this have been done just because all hallows eve is fast approaching. Well in my best Vincent Price Voice, I will let you decide HA HA HA (sorry, too dramatic I know). Thank you for taking the time to read this.

ART OR NOT YOU DECIDE.
Hello This piece is titled "Lioness at the Waterhole". This painting is an accurate rendition and has been created from an original photograph. Many artists use this procedure when creating their painting, using one or many photographs to provide the final piece of art. However neither my wife or myself are good with paints and this is actually a digitally produced painting. Now a great deal of time and work went into creating this painting (Digital Painting), whether or not the same time that it would take an actual artist to paint the same image I really don't know. As I already said I am not a painter. So what do you think, is it any less of an artistic piece because it is digitally created? Is it the paint itself that makes it art? Or is it the idea, the interpretation and the time taken that forms the art. Do the actual tools used for creation matter? Even painters have choices acrylics, oils, watercolours etc. Every choice would result in a different outcome, and could not the same be said for digital choices. Now I am in no way claiming to be a Rembrandt. However if someone looks at this image and would like it hanging on their wall, does it matter how it was made. Is not art in the eye of the beholder. OK I know it should be "beauty", but there you go I have just digitally remastered that to. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |
